Introducing Odra Sans
A warm geometric sans-serif, free under the SIL Open Font License, in seven weights with matching italics.

Odra Sans is a warm geometric sans-serif typeface for screens, interfaces and brands. It comes in seven weights, from Light to Black, each with a matching italic, plus variable fonts that cover the whole range in a single file. It's free to use under the SIL Open Font License.
The name comes from Odra, the historic name of Odisha in India.
What makes it different
Odra Sans is a Modified Version of Figtree, the open-source typeface by Erik Kennedy and the Figtree Project Authors. The changes are deliberate and visible at text sizes:
- A single-storey a by default, with the double-storey form kept as a stylistic set.
- An open single-storey g with a flat tail and an angled cut.
- Angled terminals on a, c, e, f, s and t, and on C, G, J and S.
- Slightly squared round letters, including a, b, c, d, e, g, h, m, n, o, p, q and u.
- A raised x-height, from 500 to 520 units on a 1,000-unit em.
- A redrawn 4 with an open top and a reworked 7, carried through every figure style.
Warm, not cute. Geometric, but tuned for reading.
The italics
The italics aren't simply slanted uprights. They lean at 9.5 degrees, with cursive exit strokes on a, d, h, m, n and u, optically corrected rounds, and true italic forms for letters like j, k, r, t, v, w and y. Set a sentence in italic next to its upright and the difference is easy to see.
What's in the family
Seven weights, two styles
Light 300, Regular 400, Medium 500, SemiBold 600, Bold 700, ExtraBold 800 and Black 900, each in upright and italic.
Character set and features
The fonts map 391 characters, covering Latin for Western and Central European languages. OpenType features include proportional and tabular figures, fractions, superiors and inferiors, ordinals, case-sensitive forms, and two stylistic sets: a double-storey a and alternate forms of I and l.
